11/16/20~James 5:13, NIV

It's November, the month of thankfulness and feasts and although 2020 has given us a hard time because of Covid-19 and other challenges, we can praise God for getting us through the year. However, we cannot forget that people still suffer. Today, I thought that I'd write about James 5:13 which reads like this, "Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise." The message that James is telling us is very simple, if you are struggling and suffering, give your burdens to God; if you are celebrating, thank God for blessing you. God wants us to come to him with our sorrows and let Him handle them. The song "Come As You Are" by David Crowder represents this perfectly. The lyrics say, "Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't heal" as well as, "Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can't cure." Nothing in this world is too much for God to handle, and nothing is too big or too small for God, so you can go to Him for anything. The other half of this is something that I feel like a lot of people forget, many people go to God in prayer to ask for help, but God is not a genie. God is God and He will answer prayers of sorrow and requests for healing, but God is also holy and soverign. This means that we must also give Him praise and Sunday praise songs and worship are great and all, but God is working through the world on our behalf everyday. Everyday God is working in the world for our benefit, so we should say at least one prayer of thanksgiving and praise to God everyday. God's blessings are present everyday and everywhere if you stop taking things for granted and really reflect on what you have. With this in mind, here is a challenge: Praise God in prayer once a day for a week. It can be something big, or most of the time it will be something little, but praising God in prayer once a day will really help you to see what it is that God has blessed you with and how He is working in YOUR life everyday.
